Description
Description
As the rims are Tubeless Ready, it's possible to ride without inner tubes once you've installed the tubeless rim tape, tubeless outer tubes and latex. Riding Tubeless reduces rolling resistance and increases comfort, grip and puncture resistance. The Zipp ZR1 hubs, developed in Germany, are the focal point of the 404 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake wheels. These hubs roll extremely smoothly, have well-sealed industrial bearings and engage quickly due to a 6-pawl body with 66 engagement points.
The rims and hub are held in place by the reliable and aerodynamic Sapim CX-Sprint J-bend spokes. If you are looking for a wheel set that can be used for both training and racing, the Zipp 404 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake should be high on your list!
Zipp ZR1 hubs
At the heart of these Zipp wheels is a durable hub set that was designed in Germany; the Zipp ZR1. This hub features well-sealed industrial bearings with extremely low rolling resistance. The rear hub has a body with 66 touch points for a quicker response when you start pedalling.
Zipp Lifetime Warranty
The Zipp Lifetime Warranty gives you a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. This gives you ultimate security! The warranty becomes active after registration of your wheel(s) with Zipp and is non-transferable.
Technology
TSE (Total System Efficiency Technology)Zipp focused on just one thing with Total System Efficiency Technology - more speed! The innovative rim lay-up ensures lower air resistance, less rolling resistance, lower weight, less vibration and increased durability.
Tubeless ready
The Zipp Tubeless Ready rim facilitates tubeless riding at lower pressures. This results in a larger contact area with the ground for more grip and agility on descents and when riding in wet conditions. In addition, comfort is increased and rolling resistance reduced by riding with a tubeless setup.
Hookless rims
Zipp 404 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake rims are designed without hooks to hold the edge of the tyre. The pressure of your inner tube combined with the edge of the special hookless-compatible outer tubes ensure that the tyre stays in place. This allows you to mount wider tyres, and you will experience less resistance. In short: more comfort and higher speed!
ABLC SawTooth
The Advanced Boundary Layer Control design consists of Zipp's signature golf ball structure. This allows the airflow to be directed along the surface of the rim for optimum aerodynamics. It also improves stability for greater comfort.
RollingRoad Test Protocol
Zipp continually optimises its wheels in the wind tunnel and through computer simulation. However, Zipp realizes that the real world is the best environment in which to test a wheel. Altogether, this is Zipp's RollingRoad Test Protocol. A more convex rim was developed, which merges with the tyre. This gives you even more stability and less air resistance. It also makes it easier for your bike to keep speed and less energy is lost. Because the rim is wider, you can mount even wider tyres. With a larger tyre volume and lower tyre pressure, vibration is reduced, which causes less fatigue on long rides.

Beautiful and comfortable set of wheels
Nice wheelset, makes for a very comfortable ride
Pros & Cons

Extremely good upgrade, even for an endurance road bike!
Upgraded my BMC RoadMachine with the 404 Firecrest. Never thought it would make such a big difference! Rides like on rails and is really fast!!! At the same time, this was the jump to tubeless and hookless for me, which made me a little uneasy at first. In fact, mounting the GP 5000 S TR in 28mm was no problem with a few tricks from the net. Pumping without a compressor was also possible. With milk, everything is tight so far. The wheels are very good quality and look great! What could (still) be better: - Put the freewheel and seal better in thin grease/oil. At the beginning it was rather stiff. - On the inside of the wheels (straight flanks), there are visible seams from production that could be better worked.

Another perfect delivery by Mantel.
Replacing the Reynolds with the Zipp's. A first test in 'De Moeren' by the sea and a clear difference in responsiveness, engagement point and speed tout court. And despite the high rim, no wind problems. Top!

More than worth your money!
Long-term test still pending, but the first rides suggest a lot. Significantly higher speeds from 30 km/h.

Great wheels
Despite their profile of almost 60, they do not penalize on climbs. On uneven roads they behave great, they are super comfortable and fast.
